New Coffee Arrivals ! PDF Print E-mail

I just picked up two fantastic new coffees. The first is probably one of the best Kenyan coffees I have ever had, the Kenya Nyeri Tegu. Also just arrived is the El Salvador Cup of Excellence winner, La Montanita Pacamara. More info below.


*NEW* Kenya Nyeri Tegu

Tegu is a coffee washing station, a wet mill, a coffee factory. Well, it's all three. A "factory" is a wet mill where the coop members bring coffee cherry for pulping, fermenting, washing, drying. It's not the factory as we might imagine it. Small washing stations are aligned with a particular "society" which is what they call a cooperative in Kenya.

La Montanita is owned by Antonio Rene Aguilar Lemus, and is a fairly small farm of 17.5 Hecatares in total, planted entirely with the large-bean Pacamara cultivar. If you are not familiar with it, Pacamara is a cross between a naturally-occuring hybrid Pacas and the so-called "elephant-bean" cultivar, Maragogype (known for it's low-yield trees with huge bean size).·
